Kuro-tsurubami

A black dyed with a decoction of acorn cups using an iron mordant. Under the ancient clothing code, it was the color worn by kenin and nuhi (servants and slaves). In the Heian period, in The Pillow Book, the Izumi Shikibu Diary, and The Tale of Genji, the Kuro-tsurubami robe appears as a symbol of authority adorning the court dress of high officials.
