Tobi-iro

Named after the color of the black kite's feathers. The black kite has long lived in Japan and is a bird familiar to the Japanese, but the name Tobi-iro apparently came into use in the Edo period, when the culture known as "shijuhachi-cha hyaku-nezumi" (48 browns and 100 grays) flourished. There are many variations, such as Tobi-cha, Beni-tobi, Kuro-tobi, and Murasaki-tobi.
