mountain-dove color

A grayish yellowish-green color derived from the feathers of the blue-horned dove. It is one of the forbidden colors that appeared in the Engishiki (Engi Shiki) as blue-white rubber, and was called yamahato-iro in the Genpei wars. In "The Tale of the Heike", the following description is found in the scene where Emperor Antoku enters the water at the battle of Dannoura. Many of the color names that appeared in the aristocratic culture of the Heian period were taken from plants and natural scenes, but in the period when samurai warriors were active, the color names of animals, especially birds' feathers, became common.
