Ni-iro

A color more yellowish than Shu-iro. "Ni" means red earth, and reds derived from minerals were called ni. The Gishi Wajinden (the account of the Wa people in the Records of Wei) reportedly describes the land of Wa as "its mountains have ni." This means that there was red earth in the mountains. Because of its beauty, red earth was apparently called "masoho" or "mahani," or simply "hani." "Tansei wo komeru" describes putting genuine, true sincerity into something. Ni (tan) also retains the same nuance of "bright" and "clear" as red.
