Shojo-hi

Shojo is a legendary beast in China, a sake-loving creature resembling a monkey. A red so vivid that it seemed to have been dyed with shojo blood was called Shojo-hi. It came to Japan through the Nanban trade, and warlords of the Warring States period favored it for their jinbaori (surcoats worn over armor). Of course, it was not shojo blood, and it is thought to have been cochineal dyeing.
