Red

With a Munsell value of 5R 4/14, it is registered in the JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards) as the most typical red. Red is also used as a general term for Hi-iro, Beni-iro, Shu-iro, Brown, and others. The vivid red seen in Japanese decorated tombs such as Fujinoki and at Yoshinogari, the red that Hindus wear on their foreheads, the red of Indigenous murals in North America, and the red of tombstones of the Sican culture in South America are all thought to have shared the meaning of a sacred color that wards off evil.
