Karakurenai

Safflower is soaked in water to dissolve its yellow pigment, and then soaked in lye, which releases the red pigment. This is the color obtained by dipping fabric into that pigment many times to dye it deeply. Because safflower was introduced from the continent, the color is called Karakurenai, written with characters meaning "Korean crimson" or "Tang crimson."
