Tsutsuji-iro

The purplish red of azalea flowers. It was in use in the Heian period, and it is said to be listed first among the winter colors in The Pillow Book. The name "Chosen pink" is rarely used today, but it refers to a vivid pink like Tsutsuji-iro. In Japan, soft pinks such as Sakura-iro and Momo-iro are well loved.
