Bengara-iro

A color produced by using red earth from the Bengal region of India (present-day Bangladesh) as a pigment, said to have been introduced through the Nanban trade in the Warring States period. Pure reddish-brown pigment from Bengal was hard to obtain, and much Bengara-iro was apparently made by firing domestic earth. It is said to be more yellowish than Suo and brighter than Tobi-iro.
