A dark grayish yellow-red. The history of tea dates back to the time of Kukai and Saicho, but the custom of tea drinking seems to have been reserved for the ruling class. Sen no Rikyu spread the custom of tea to the wealthy merchant class, but the common people did not seem to have the custom until the spread of sencha tea.
