Tonal color schemes are a method of color coordination that uses intermediate colors with medium brightness and medium to low saturation.
In the PCCS tone classification, colors from the four tone categories—Soft (sf), Dull (d), Light Grayish (ltg), and Grayish (g)—are used.
These four tones are also referred to as “muted colors” and are categorized as light clear, dark clear, pure, and achromatic.
“Tonal” refers to “timbre” or “painting tone.”
