Kaki-iro

A color like that of persimmon fruit. It usually refers to the color of the fruit of terugaki or Yamato-gaki persimmons, and it is one of the three colors of the jojimaku, the standard stage curtain of kabuki. In the past, the brown dyed with kakishibu (Kakishibu-iro) was also called Kaki-iro. From the Edo period onward, it was apparently used as a vivid orange. The persimmon is native to East Asia, and in French it is called kaki, and in German it is also kaki. In English it is persimmon.
