Day 1: Foundations of Color and Paint
- Fundamentals of paint and coatings: composition, pigments, color development, gloss, hiding power, and weather resistance
- Fundamentals of color: chromatic adaptation and afterimages, the Munsell color system, standard paint colors, and color imagery
- Fundamentals of color design: color harmony and the relationship between lifestyle and color
- Experiential learning: color simulation, simulated experience of Color Universal Design (CUD), and a color perception test
- Color coordination practice: a hands-on color design exercise for a detached house, and more
Day 2: Landscape Coordination and Applied Practice
- Key points in color design: harmony with the surrounding landscape, landscape color guidelines, and creating client proposals
- Color matching and coating practice: producing painted sample panels
- Color design exercise for an apartment building: individual and group projects, followed by presentations and evaluations
Instructors include coating technicians from the Japan Painting Contractors Association and active color coordinators from the paint and coatings industry. A major appeal of the program is the chance to learn directly from practical expertise accumulated in the field.
