Master Color Skills for the Paint Industry: CCS "Basic Course" — Color Communication for Sales 2026 (Hosted by JPMA)

Color is not the exclusive domain of designers and color researchers. In the paint and coatings industry, color literacy is a critical skill that shapes client communication and the quality of every proposal. The CCS "Basic Course" — Color Communication for Sales, co-hosted by three industry organizations including the Japan Paint Manufacturers Association (JPMA), is a two-day seminar designed to help sales, planning, and design professionals in the paint industry build the practical color knowledge and intuition they need on the job.

Seminar Overview

CCS (Color Communication for Sales) "Basic Course" is aimed at professionals working in the paint and coatings industry, with the goal of cultivating color-driven client communication skills. What sets it apart is its integrated curriculum: participants learn not only color theory and coordination principles but also product-side knowledge such as paint composition and coating specifications.

📌 Key Point

The program targets a wide range of roles connected to paint — sales, planning, marketing, and design. Its cross-disciplinary approach, blending color theory with hands-on coating practice, clearly distinguishes it from other color seminars.

Curriculum Highlights

The two-day program combines classroom lectures with hands-on practical exercises.

Day 1: Foundations of Color and Paint

  • Fundamentals of paint and coatings: composition, pigments, color development, gloss, hiding power, and weather resistance
  • Fundamentals of color: chromatic adaptation and afterimages, the Munsell color system, standard paint colors, and color imagery
  • Fundamentals of color design: color harmony and the relationship between lifestyle and color
  • Experiential learning: color simulation, simulated experience of Color Universal Design (CUD), and a color perception test
  • Color coordination practice: a hands-on color design exercise for a detached house, and more

Day 2: Landscape Coordination and Applied Practice

  • Key points in color design: harmony with the surrounding landscape, landscape color guidelines, and creating client proposals
  • Color matching and coating practice: producing painted sample panels
  • Color design exercise for an apartment building: individual and group projects, followed by presentations and evaluations
📝 Note

Instructors include coating technicians from the Japan Painting Contractors Association and active color coordinators from the paint and coatings industry. A major appeal of the program is the chance to learn directly from practical expertise accumulated in the field.

Who Should Attend

  • Professionals in sales, planning, or marketing roles within the paint and coatings industry
  • Those looking to sharpen their color design and proposal-writing skills
  • Anyone wishing to study the Munsell color system and standard paint colors systematically
  • Those interested in Color Universal Design and landscape color coordination
💡 Tip

A more advanced "Advanced Course" Color Coordinator Skill-Up Seminar is also scheduled for February 2027. This allows you to progress naturally from the Basic Course into next year's Advanced Course as a clear step-up path.
