The Vision Science and Technology Consortium (VSAT) holds its 13th open event on Thursday, October 22, 2026, in Kannai, Yokohama. Four talks are on the program: beauty experiences built with AR (augmented reality), sensory research on imagery and product design, visualization in industrial VR, and the current state of artificial intelligence.

The Four Talks
New Beauty Experiences Through AR Imaging (Kan Arai, Shiseido MIRAI Technology Institute)
An introduction to research that applies AR technology to bring at-home self-care closer to the experience of being treated by a practitioner. Drawing on a purpose-built AR application and experimental results, the talk covers how visual presentation changes bodily sensations and physiological responses during self-care.
Sensory Research on Awe-Inspiring Imagery and Product Design (Shuntaro Okazaki, Shiseido MIRAI Technology Institute)
Sensory research focused on the feeling of awe evoked by scenes such as vast natural landscapes. Building on findings from psychology and cognitive science since the 2000s, the talk describes work that extends the objects of awe from natural environments to imagery and product design, and implements this in society as experiential value.
Beyond Visualization (Takafumi Sato, Solidray Co., Ltd.)
An account of the company's 40 years of work on VR for industry, with concrete examples of the 3D, VR, and visualization imaging systems it has delivered. The talk also addresses how consumer VR differs from industrial VR.
Artificial Intelligence: Past, Present, and Future (Tomoharu Nagao, Yokohama National University)
How AI technology developed, followed by the current state and open problems of today's core technologies: deep learning, LLMs (large language models), generative AI, physical AI, and VLMs (vision language models). The talk also covers the benefits, drawbacks, and risks of adopting AI in companies, and the significance of explainable AI (XAI).
Fees and Registration
Attendance at the talks is free for registered VSAT members and students, and 4,000 yen for general participants. You can also apply to join VSAT at the same time as registering; the annual membership fee in that case is 3,000 yen. The fee for the networking reception had not been announced as of September 12, 2026.
